North Shore Dog Rescue
North Shore Animal League America's most far-reaching program, our Out of State Nationwide Pet Rescues, is responsible for saving over 150, 000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens since the program’s inception in 1991.
For these on-going rescues, we use our well-equipped, climate-controlled rescue vans to transport pets from areas where they would be destroyed to the Animal League. Rescues are conducted from overcrowded facilities in other states, including North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Because our vision is to end the cycle of unplanned births and resulting euthanasia, we provide the country’s leading spay/neuter referral program, SPAY/USA.
Closer to headquarters, our rescue vans routinely visit shelters in the New York metropolitan area, rescue the puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats slated for death, and bring them to the safety of our Port Washington Adoption Center.
All animals are medically and behaviorally evaluated as they arrive at the Animal League, where they receive the medical care and any rehabilitation they need to be readied for adoption.
