Adopting A Friend
Choosing a pet is not easy - we have a large selection! Most of the animals available for adoption are hearty mixed breeds or "All American Shelter Pets" as we like to call them. However, purebreds are always available as well. Our adoption specialists will help match your lifestyle and needs with the dog or cat that suits you best.
All animals are adopted to qualified applicants on a first-come-first-serve basis. Adoption fees:
- $60 for adult dogs
- $75 for puppies
- $50 for cats and kittens
- Residents 70 years and older, are offered a discount on adoption fees.
All adopted animals will be spayed/neutered prior to going to their new home and will also receive their first round of vaccinations, de-worming, Frontline, heartworm test and preventative, rabies vaccination, county license tag, and a microchip. All adoptions include a 7-day Health Care Certificate for follow-up care with a private veterinarian and a free bag of Science Diet dog or cat food.
Who We Are
Animal Care and Control is part of Palm Beach County Government. Our shelter was started in 1969.
In 1974, the shelter became a division of the Public Safety Department. Programs and services were expanded to keep pace with the growing human and animal population. In 1980, the division became fully accredited by the Humane Society of the United States. Animal Care and Control was the first agency in the southeast and the second in the entire nation to achieve this distinction.
While we are a division of the county government, many of our services are soley operated off of donations from the public, such as our low-cost spay and neuter programs. Donations of any kind are always needed and greatly appreciated.
We offer a variety of services including:
- Animal law enforcement
- Animal adoptions
- Animal cruelty investigations
- Low-cost spaying and neutering
- Vaccinations, licence tags, and microchipping
- Volunteer program
- Foster-care program
- Pet Friendly Shelter
- Humane education and shelter tours
- Rescue of stray and unwanted pets
- Online lost and found database (SNAP)
