Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

We rely on volunteers to help with many aspects of our shelter operations.

Your generosity in donating your time can have a huge impact on the lives of many animals in our shelter.

Volunteer Information & Requirements

Commitment

We recognize that your time is valuable, which is why we do not have a time commitment requirement. However we do request that volunteers contact the shelter to schedule their time in advance.

Age Restrictions

All volunteers must be over age 16 to volunteer by themselves. Volunteers as young as 12 may volunteer when accompanied by an adult chaperon over 19 years old. All volunteers are required to sign a liability waiver and attend an orientation.

Monthly Orientation

Volunteer Orientation is held on the on the last Saturday of the month at 11am. Meet at the shelter.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many different volunteer opportunities available with the Columbia Humane Society. Not all of which involve interacting with the animals.

Animal Socialization-Opportunities include cuddling and playing with the animals and walking the dogs

Shelter Operations– Opportunities include cleaning the kennels, sorting and preparing food and helping with the laundry.

Office Support– Opportunities include answering phones, filing and organizing

Events– Opportunities include preparing mailings, making decorations, soliciting auction items and volunteering to work various events from adoptions to fundraising events

Fundraising– Opportunities include attending planning meetings, grant writing, sponsorship solicitation, research and preparing solicitation mailings

Maintenance– Opportunities include building basic structures, painting and handling repairs

Publicity– Opportunities include distributing fliers, posters and invitations as well as social media marketing
